"Another idea is to work with schools and businesses to facilitate more mapping of user journeys within York. If there are clusters of parents or employees that live in particular areas, or travel along specific routes, then specific strategies could…"

Antony Powell replied to GeniUS!'s discussion GeniUS! Challenge #4 - Utilising footfall & transport NOW OPEN
"I was going to mention the 'per car' charging option as it does seem anomalous to be on a per passenger basis. However, I'm sure the transport team at York Council will have looked in detail at all the options and reached a sensible…"

"I am sure many of these will have been considered and initiatives like IBM's Smarter Cities will have other case studies/ideas. However, I haven't seen much detailed published evidence on transport usage in York. If we had a means to share…"

Antony Powell replied to GeniUS!'s discussion GeniUS! Challenge #4 - Utilising footfall & transport NOW OPEN
"Two suggestions on the Transport side: 1. In my opinion, one of the big problems with (public) transport in York is predictability. Some days I can leave home/work by bus or car and my journey will take 10 minutes other days it can be half-an-hour;…"

"FWIW, we are York-based SME who haven't contracted with the Council as we usually deal with Government and large blue-chip clients. I would be happy to do an experiment and go through the procurement process, measuring how long it takes and…"

"I like this wider 'business catalogue' idea (see my other post on this topic). Performing a 'census' of goods and service providers would have a number of benefits beyond Council (B2G) procurement - for example in stimulating…"

"On the challenge of 'how to exploit data' - it is precisely our (YorkMetrics') business to get better value out of data like this to help decision makers add more value to their enterprises. For example, we have previously done some…"

Antony Powell replied to GeniUS!'s discussion GeniUS! Challenge #1 - Hidden Gems CLOSES WEDNESDAY 15th FEBRUARY
"It is difficult building an innovation community within the timescales that GeniUS has to meet. Looking back, my first reaction to this Challenge was that we precisely need to improve the way that we do challenges like this here in York. By that, I…"

Antony Powell commented on John E Forth's blog post Ideas for the lonely elderly
"(Quick reply) I don't think it necessarily needs a commercial solution as the technology is mostly available off-the-shelf and built-in to most Tablets. Tailoring of a York App (portal) for the purpose could be done on a voluntary basis or a…"

Antony Powell commented on John E Forth's blog post Ideas for the lonely elderly
"I think there's mileage in this. My guess is to use a budget Android Tablet running an app that provides *very* simple (big button) access to the sort of services an elderly person might need. Setting up a skype account will take care of the…"

There are spaces in communities that are safe and welcoming, that are free and open to everyone.  Spaces where communities can come together, spaces that are trusted by the public.  They have free wifi and free internet access

These are called public libraries and we have 15 of them in York, and 1 on wheels that travels around.

They all have trained staff who support people accessing information and services in life-critical areas such as careers and job seeking; health;…
